Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Panneerselvam Joins DMK, Calls AIADMK Chief Palaniswami 'Arrogant'

Earlier, Panneerselvam had functioned as AIADMK treasurer and also held the erstwhile top position of party coordinator. He had also briefly served as leader of opposition after DMK formed the government in 2006.

New Delhi: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister O. Panneerselvam, who was expelled from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) joined the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Friday (February 27) in the presence of its president and incumbent Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin, reported Press Trust of India (PTI).

Popularly known as OPS, Panneerselvam, joined the DMK along with his son, P. Ravindhranath Kumar and supporters. Once a trusted confidant of late AIADMK supremo and former chief minister J. Jayalalitha, Panneerselvam decided to join once-arch rival DMK after unsuccessfully struggling for over three years to join his parent outfit again.

While speaking to reporters on Friday, Panneerselvam expressed his happiness in joining the DMK and slammed AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami as an "autocrat" and "arrogant". He said that Palaniswami has created a situation of "no-victory" for the AIADMK at all times, reported PTI.

Panneerselvam said that he would abide by chief minister Stalin's diktat and that the latter understands people's needs and delivers welfare schemes to all sections of the people without any bias. He said that today, there is no one party that could oppose the DMK.
