New Delhi: Income Tax department officials are “surveying” premises linked to actor Sonu Sood in Mumbai, reports have said.

As many as six locations connected to the actor are being “surveyed,” reports have said.

Sood had earned fame after arranging for relief for migrant workers who were stranded as the Union government announced a sudden lockdown on March 24, 2020, with four hours’ notice.

The survey comes days after Sood was named brand ambassador for an education programme launched by the Delhi government.

On September 13, the Aam Aadmi Party, which runs the Delhi government, had alleged that the Union government was keen to strike at the popularity of the party ahead of key state assembly elections after the Enforcement Directorate summoned its national secretary Pankaj Gupta.

Under the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre, the allegation that central investigation agencies like the CBI, NIA and ED, along with the Income Tax department, are increasingly being used by the Narendra Modi government to specifically target figures in the opposition has gained ground.
