New Delhi: A committee from a government-run medical college in Madhya Pradesh has submitted an audit report to the Indore administration about the deaths of 21 persons in the city’s Bhagirathpura area. According to the audit report, 15 of the fatalities might be linked to a recent outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea in the area, reported Press Trust of India, citing sources.

Even as the committee from the Mahatma Gandhi Memoria Medical College submitted its report, five new cases of diarrhoea, linked to drinking contaminated water were detected in Bhagirathpura on Tuesday (January 13) said a Madhya Pradesh health department official.

So far, the Indore administration has so confirmed the deaths of six persons due to vomiting and diarrhoea caused by drinking contaminated water. However, local residents have said that 23 patients, including a six-month-old child, have died so far due to the outbreak connected with contaminated drinking water.

"A committee of senior doctors from the college was formed to analyse the causes of the deaths in Bhagirathpura. This committee has submitted its report," said district magistrate Shivam Verma on Tuesday.

Ever since the vomiting and diarrhoea outbreak which started on December 29, a total of 436 patients were admitted to hospitals. Among the patients, 403 were discharged after recovery while 33 patients are hospitalised, of whom eight are in intensive care units (ICUs) of hospitals, reported PTI.
