In this interview, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh tells The Wire’s Mitali Mukherjee that Congress’ interim president Sonia Gandhi has written at least six letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi recommending solutions for labour distress among other things, as India fights the pandemic with strict lockdown measures.
Ramesh adds that the Centre’s implementation of some of those recommendations has been “lackadaisical” and such a response only shows that instead of federalism, the Centre seems to be moving towards over-centralisation.
