New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has booked Tata Group company Tata Consulting Engineers and others over claims of alleged corruption and cheating to the tune of around Rs 800 crore in connection with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai.

Global maritime engineering company M/s Boskalis Smit has also been arraigned as an accused in the case.

CBI alleges that Tata Consulting Engineers was in a criminal conspiracy with officials of the Mumbai port and favoured private companies when it came to dredging work at the port. Tata Consulting Engineers was the management consultant of the dredging project.

The dredging work was executed in two phases – Capital Dredging Project Phase I and Capital Dredging Project Phase Il. Phase one was planned and executed from 2010 to 2014 and phase two was planned and executed from 2012 to 2019.

The case against the Tata Group comes a week after one of the Dreamliners owned by Air India, which the Group acquired from the government, suffered a crash moments after take off, leading to the deaths of 241 of the 242 on the plane.
