New Delhi: Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer K. Sanjay Murthy on Monday (November 18) was appointed as the new Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).>
Murthy is a 1989-batch Himachal Pradesh cadre IAS officer. He will succeed Girish Chandra Murmu who was appointed as CAG in August 2020.>
Murthy is currently serving as Secretary in the Department of Higher Education. He assumed office in October 2021 and his tenure, marked by several incidents of paper leaks and botched examinations, was to end on December 21, 2024.>
“By virtue of the power vested in her by clause (1) of article 148 of the Constitution of India, the President has been pleased to appoint K Sanjay Murthy to be the Comptroller and Auditor General of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office,” a notification issued by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, said.>
Murthy’s appointment comes two days before Murmu completes his term on November 20.>
