New Delhi: Days after it was reported that a luxury car owned by Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule’s son Sanket hit several vehicles on September 9 in Nagpur, police has said that CCTV footage of the bar visited by him before the accident is missing.
PTI has reported Sitabuldi Police as having said that the Digital Video Recorder of the bar has been seized.
Police had earlier said that Sanket and four of his friends had dined at La Horee bar in Nagpur’s Dharampeth area. They had also ordered “two liquor bottles worth over Rs 12,000,” cops said.
Earlier this week, on September 10, the manager of La Horee had refused to hand over CCTV footage and equipment to the police, but relented after being threatened with action, police told PTI.
“However, we realised there is no footage since Sunday night,” police added.
Sanket’s Audi, allegedly driven by his friend Arjun Hawre, hit several vehicles and injured two people on a two-wheeler. Hawre was arrested and released on bail.
Sanket’s father Chandrashekhar had said in the aftermath of the accident that justice should be equal for all.
“By God’s grace, no one was injured and no casualties were reported in the accident. But several vehicles were damaged. I have said this yesterday also: whether the car is in the name of my son or a criminal, proper action should be taken against them. The police have given me the primary information. Justice should be equal to all,” he had said, according to Hindustan Times.
On May 18 this year, an allegedly drunk 17-year-old boy drove a luxury car into a motorcycle at around 3 am in Pune, killing both its riders. Reports that right after the incident, the local MLA reached the Yerwada Police Station and made attempts to delink the minor’s name from the accident had led to nationwide outrage.
