New Delhi: A 55-year-old man died while undergoing treatment after he was knocked down by a car which was part of the convoy of vehicles of Telangana assembly speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy. The incident took place on Monday, October 11, near Kallakal village in Manhoharabad mandal of Medak district, The News Minute has reported.
The victim, who has been identified as Narasimha Reddy, was trying to cross the road on which the convoy was plying. He was a resident of Kallakal village and was working at a private factory in the local industrial area.
The incident took place when the speaker was on his way to his constituency Banswada in Kamareddy district for an official programme. After the accident, the speaker is learned to have got down from his car and rushed him to a local hospital. However, Narasimha Reddy succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment.
Police detained the car driver and seized his vehicle, and suspect that the accident took place due to the driver's negligence.
“The car did not belong to the speaker. It was a different vehicle which was part of the convoy. The vehicle and the driver have been detained. Further inquiry is going on. A case in this regard has been registered,” Medak superintendent of police Chandana Deepthi was quoted as saying by News Minute.
After the incident, speaker Reddy issued a statement describing the incident as "unfortunate". He instructed officials concerned to extend all possible help to the bereaved family.

In 2018, after Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) won the second term in office, he was unanimously elected as the speaker of the legislative assembly. Prior to that, in TRS's first term, he served as agriculture minister.
