Churachandpur police have filed a first information report.

New Delhi: An armed crowd of unidentified people vandalised an office of the civil society forum representing the Kuki-Zo people in Manipur on March 17.

The miscreants destroyed computers and documents at the Indigenous Tribal Leader’s Forum’s office near Tuibuong Peace Ground in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, Indian Express has reported.

Churachandpur police have filed a first information report.

“Additionally, the same alleged armed group attempted to murder ITLF spokesperson Ginza Vualzong at his home that same night and the ITLF vehemently denounced this action,” the civil society group said, according to NDTV.

Late last year, Vualzong had told The Wire that the response of the N. Biren Singh government to atrocities committed on the Meiteis compared to its response to atrocities committed on the Kukis was discriminatory.

“This act of uncivilised and, perhaps, fatal violence”, the group said, is unacceptable.

The Express report noted that Churachandpur district has seen protests by the United Tribal Volunteers (UTV) over the quality of meals.

Manipur has been divided along ethnic lines since violence began almost a year ago in early May.
