Rahul Gandhi Demands Judicial Probe into Killings in Ladakh, Accuses Modi of ‘Betrayal’
New Delhi: Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday (September 30) demanded a judicial inquiry into the deaths of four people including a former serviceman who was killed in the clashes in Ladakh last week.
“The father a serviceman, the son also a serviceman, patriotism runs in their blood. Yet, the BJP government fired bullets at the brave son and killed him because he stood for the rights of Ladakh and his own,” said Gandhi in a post on his X.
“The grieving father’s eyes have just one question – is this the reward of serving the country?”
“Our demand is that there must be a fair judicial inquiry into these killings that took place in Ladakh, and the guilty must be given the strictest possible punishment,” he said.

Gandhi shared a video of the father of Tsewang Tharchin, the father of four children who served the army from 1996 to 2017 and was among the four persons killed in firing on September 24. Both father and son were former servicemen who had served alongside each other in the 1999 Kargil war, The Wire has reported.
On September 24, the hunger strike seeking special constitutional protections for Ladakh by a group of activists led by educator and Magsaysay Award winner Sonam Wangchuk had entered its 15th day and the deteriorating condition of the participants had ignited passions, following which four people were killed.
“Modi ji, you have betrayed the people of Ladakh. They are demanding their rights, engage in dialogue - stop the politics of violence and fear,” said Gandhi.
The Wire has reported there is growing rage among residents whose peaceful agitation for rights and constitutional safeguards is being projected as a spectacular foreign conspiracy against India by officials and some sections of the media.
Following the violence the Union home ministry sought to pin the blame on Wangchuk, saying that he was using “provocative” slogans of “Arab Spring-style” and “Gen Z protests in Nepal” to stir unrest in Ladakh. He has since been booked under the National Security Act.
