New Delhi: The Luthra brothers – Saurabh and Gaurav – principal owners of Goa's Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, where a devastating fire on December 6 took the lives of 25 people – are set to return to India today, December 11.

According to a statement by the Luthras shared by the SKRB Law Firm at Defence Colony, quoting the two brothers who are said to be in Thailand now, they plan to return to India today.

“We, Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra, shall arrive in India on 11.12.2025 and submit ourselves to the jurisdiction of the police authorities and the judicial system of our country. We undertake to co-operate with the police authorities. We are law abiding citizens of our great country and we repose utmost faith and trust in the judicial system. We never intended to evade the process of law, as has been erroneously portrayed,” the statement from the brothers said.

“Our decision to return to our country is unrelated and uninfluenced by the legal remedies we have already availed or shall avail in future,” it further said.

The Goa Police have already suspended their passports after reports said they had fled to Thailand as soon as the fire broke out.

The two brothers thus cannot travel abroad. It is learnt that the government, too, was considering a similar move to get them to return to the country.

Another owner of the nightclub – Ajay Gupta – is already under arrest. He has, however claimed that he was only a sleeping partner and was not involved in the day-to-day operations of the club.

A day ago, on December 10, the two brothers had sought interim relief from a Delhi court, seeking four weeks’ transit anticipatory bail to allow them to return as well as protection from custodial interrogation.

However, no interim relief was granted and the court is set to adjudicate the matter today (December 11) at 2 pm.

This article went live on December eleventh, two thousand twenty five, at ten minutes past ten in the morning.
