New Delhi: The Supreme Court has stayed the Gujarat high court order asking the state government to return 108 hectares of grazing land given to the Adani group.
The court gave relief to Adani after the Gujarat government on July 5 told the high court that it would retrieve the 108 hectares from the Kutch region and give it back to villagers.
On July 10, listening to the appeal of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) Ltd, the Supreme Court bench of Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan said that the high court order needs to be stayed in the interest of justice, Business Standard reported.
Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Adani, said the side was not heard by the high court.
"Issue notice. Stay on the impugned [HC] order," said Justice Gavai.
In an earlier report The Wire had pointed out that on April 19, hearing the case, the court asked the state government to take necessary steps to resolve the matter.
