A recent Lokniti-CSDS survey conducted in five states and the National Capital Territory of Delhi has clearly established that people are losing their trust in the Election Commission. During the last six years, the percentage of people who have “no trust” in the Election Commission has risen sharply from 6% to 22% in Madhya Pradesh, from 11% to 30% in Delhi and 31% in Uttar Pradesh.

Analysing the survey results, the co-Director of Lokniti-CSDS, professor Sanjay Kumar, said: “No trust. This is a very clear cut answer. They have no trust and people only give this kind of response when they really really have no trust … look at the data of 2019, the number of people who said no trust is very small. All in single digits, 6-7%. Now from 6% to 25%, it’s a huge jump. This indicates how people are losing trust in the Election Commission.”
