New Delhi: Unidentified persons broke into the official residence of Madhya Pradesh sports minister Vishvas Sarang in Bhopal and escaped with six trophies on the night of April 2, reported Indian Express. The theft at the house of a sitting minister has raised concerns about the law and order situation in the state.

The Indian Express report added that a formal complaint was lodged on April 6 at TT Nagar police station by the minister’s personal assistant, Pravin Saxena.

According to police station in-charge Gaurav Singh Dohar, officials are analysing footage from nearby cameras to identify suspects. Prima facie it appears that the accused had done prior reconnaissance and targeted a storage area located outside the main residence.

“The store room contained some shields which we are told are mementoes. We have formed a team and are on the lookout for the accused. There was no CCTV in that particular area,” said Dohar.

Following the incident, an FIR has been registered against unidentified persons, and a special investigation team has been formed.

Despite being situated in high security enclaves, thieves and burglars have targeted homes of politicians in Bhopal in recent times. In September 2025, masked intruders had attempted a robbery at Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari’s Indore residence in the Bijalpur area late on September 5, 2025, reported Indian Express.
