New Delhi: The Union education ministry has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) to ask affiliated schools to screen a film inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s childhood.

The film, Chalo Jeete Hain, is to be screened at schools between September 16-October 2, according to the ministry’s letter, dated September 11.

“It will help young learners to reflect on themes of character, service, and responsibility. The film can also serve as a case study for moral reasoning, and support the goals of social-emotional learning, developing empathy, self-reflection, critical thinking, and inspiration,” the letter said.

The letter also mentioned an experiential learning programme called ‘Prerana’.

It said the programme is based on “9 core human values: Swabhiman aur Vinay; Shaurya aur Sahas; Parishram aur Samarpan; Satyanishtha aur Shuchita; Karuna aur Seva; Navachar aur Jigyasa; Vividhta aur Ekta; Shraddha aur Vishwas; Swatantrata aur Kartavya.”

“Prerana program is being conducted from the historic Vernacular School of Vadnagar, Gujarat, established in 1888, the very institution where Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi began his educational journey,” it added.

The letter said that the film is inspired by “true events and embodies the 9 binary values and the quote of Swami Vivekananda, ‘Only those who live for others, actually live’”. It is regularly screened as part of the experiential learning programme, the letter added.

The film was originally released in 2018 and is being re-released across the country, the Indian Express reported. It will play in cinema halls from September 17-October 2. The film was also awarded the ‘Best Non-Feature Film on Family Values’ at the 66th National Film Awards, the letter stated.

The letter also claimed that the film had left a “deep impact” on the participants of the Prerana programme, “who have internalised its message and reflected it in their attitudes and actions.”
