New Delhi: The Union government has withdrawn the Z-category Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security that was provided to Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta following an attack on her.

Gupta’s security has been entrusted to the Delhi Police again, reported Press Trust of India on Monday (August 25) quoting official sources.

On the morning  of August 20, Gupta, 51, was attacked by a man during a 'Jan Sunwai' programme at her camp office in the Civil Lines area. Her office had termed the assault a part of a "well-planned conspiracy to kill her".

A day after the attack, the Union home ministry had asked the CRPF VIP security wing to extend its cover to Gupta as part of Z category protection protocol of the government.

However, the orders to extend the CRPF cover were to be issued formally by the Union government but following a change of plan, the orders for withdrawal were issued, said the PTI report.
