New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh hospital where last week a dengue patient died after allegedly being transfused with fruit juice instead of platelets is now facing demolition, according to a report in NDTV.

The Global Hospital and Trauma Centre in Prayagraj has reportedly been sent a demolition notice, alleging illegal construction, and has been ordered to be vacated by Friday, October 28. The notice also claimed that earlier notices in this regard have not been replied to by hospital authorities and the demolition order had been passed last year.

The hospital currently has no patients as it was sealed after the dengue patient's death.

The patient, Pradeep Pandey, had been admitted to the private hospital with dengue and had to undergo a platelet transfusion. However, during the procedure, the patient’s health reportedly started deteriorating and he was moved to another hospital, where he eventually succumbed.

A source had told NDTV that after the patient’s demise, it was discovered that the ‘platelets’ he had been transfused with was actually mosambi juice.

After videos highlighting the incident were shared widely on social media, the Global Hospital and Trauma Centre was sealed on October 20 on directions from Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak.

While the patient’s family had demanded strict action against the private hospital’s administration, Saurabh Mishra, the owner of the hospital, denied allegations of impropriety, alleging that the patient’s family had sourced the platelets themselves from a different medical facility.

Mishra had said that the patient’s kin had brought five bags of platelets for the treatment but after the transfusion of three of these bags, the patient had an adverse reaction and the transfusion was halted.

He further alleged that the spurious platelet bags had the logo of ‘SRN Hospital’ on them.

A police inquiry was reportedly initiated after the orders for the hospital to be sealed had been passed.

A day after the hospital was sealed, on October 21, the Uttar Pradesh police arrested 10 individuals for allegedly selling fake platelets to patients, news agency PTI had reported. However, according to the police, the accused had been stealing plasma from various blood banks and selling it as platelets – no mention of mosambi juice was made.
