All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director Dr Randeep Guleria told ANI on May 7 that as per modelling data, and the way COVID-19 cases are increasing, it is likely that the peak may come in June and July. Dr Guleria added that there are many variables to this and only with time we would know what have been the effects of lockdown.

In a separate statement which slightly differs from what the AIIMS director, health ministry’s representative, Lav Agarwal on May 4, said that because of the lockdown and containment activities, "We have been able to control cases relatively”. "The curve is relatively flat as of now", he said. He added ‘When the peak will come - that's not the right way of looking at the situation. What is relevant is we know how to prevent the disease.”

The video gives numbers updated on the health ministry's website as on midnight. As per the latest data released in the morning, the total number of cases is 56,342, total recoveries stand at 16,539 and the death toll is 1,886.
