New Delhi: Following a Supreme Court order upholding the Delhi high court's judgment on a decades-old land acquisition claim, over 150 houses have been demolished to widen a road in Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh. The residents, mostly low-income workers, have lived in the locality for over 50 years and report that the government had previously recognised their settlement rights through documents and conveyance deeds. Activists and lawyers have also raised concerns over the violation of rights and due process.
