The Union home ministry on September 28 banned the Popular Front of India (PFI) for a period of five years for having links to terror funding and establishing an Islamic State in India by 2047. Eminent Muslim personalities and scholars condemned this action and ask the government to show proof of the claims against PFI.

Meanwhile, the entire area of Jamia Nagar, of which Shaheen Bagh is a part, was slapped with section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for a period of almost two months. (From September 19 to November 27). This means that the entire area, including the Jamia Millia Islamia University, would be under curfew and assembly of more than three people would not be allowed.

In this video, The Wire's Zeeshan Kaskar spoke with some prominent Muslims of Jamia Nagar to understand their feelings about the ban on PFI and the subsequent imposition of section 144.
