Lately, social media giant Twitter has been in the news in India for all the wrong reasons. While once, it faced the wrath of the Union government for blocking IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad's Twitter account, on another occasion, it angered some by removing the blue ticks from top RSS leaders' Twitter handles.

This apart, the company's interim grievance officer Dharmendra Chatur has resigned within four weeks after taking charge, amidst growing distance between the social media company and the Union government. It has now appointed California-based Jermey Kessel as a new grievance officer for India. However, this appointment is not in line with the new IT rules of the Indian government. The new IT rules require that the official concerned should be an Indian resident. This is likely to further flare up the already existing tensions between Twitter and the Government of India.

In this episode of 'The Wire Explains', Mukul Singh Chauhan breaks down the issue and tells you why Twitter and the Government of India have been on a collision course for some time now.
