The Uttar Pradesh (UP) police on Friday announced in the morning that criminal Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter while being brought from Madhya Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh’s Special Task Force (UP-STF) team was bringing Vikas Dubey to Kanpur when the car allegedly overturned. Dubey is the main accused in the murder of eight policemen. His arrest took place on July 9 at the Mahakal temple in Ujjain city in Madhya Pradesh.

Police said that personnel had to shoot as Dubey was trying to escape. This explanation has come under fire. Arfa Khanum Sherwani explains why.
