New Delhi: The Mumbai resident seen confronting Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan in a viral video during a traffic disruption in India’s commercial capital, has issued a detailed public statement describing the events leading up to the exchange, saying she received no response from police for over an hour.

Breaking her silence days after the April 21 incident, Teena Choudhry identified herself in a video message, said she was safe, and thanked people for their support. She also appealed for the episode not to be politicised, stating that “all political parties are guilty of the exact same offence” when it comes to disregard for the public during rallies.

The confrontation took place during a BJP “Jan Aakrosh” rally along the Worli–Prabhadevi stretch, where traffic was halted at several junctions. Commuters reported long delays, with limited information on diversions.

According to Indian Express, Choudhry is a former television actress, married to a film director Robbie Grewal.

Choudhry said she had gone to pick up her daughter from a music class when she got stuck near Mahindra Taaz. “I was in my car for 25 minutes. When the traffic did not move, I got out to find out the problem,” she said, adding that two buses were blocking the road.

“For the next one and a half hours, I went to every single police officer. I received no reaction, no response. Nobody heard me,” she said, explaining that she threw a bottle on the ground to attract attention.

Her exchange with Mahajan, captured in the viral video, occurred after the prolonged delay. By then, she said, it was already 6.15 pm and she was anxious about reaching her child. In the clip, she is heard telling the minister, “Get out of here… you are causing a traffic jam.”

Despite the confrontation, Choudhry said Mahajan was the only person who responded to her concerns. “On his instructions, the two buses were moved, and we were able to join the main road,” she said.

Choudhry also referred to her family’s military background, saying several members had served in the armed forces, and criticised the conduct of authorities. “When you wear a uniform, you are in public service. It does not give you the right to be disrespectful or intimidating,” she said.

At the same time, she claimed that her confrontation was being politicised and used to criticise authorities. “Why do I need to be your voice? You have a voice,” she said, urging people not to use her “shoulder to take aim”.

The incident has since led to a complaint filed against Choudhry, claiming that she created a disturbance and obstructed public duty. Police have said the complaint is under examination and no FIR has been registered so far.

Mahajan had earlier said that traffic disruption during rallies is routine and that the woman had used inappropriate language, while also expressing regret over the inconvenience caused.
