On January 3, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) Dr V.G. Somani read out a short statement, spanning about eight minutes, announcing that his office had approved the Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech COVID-19 vaccine candidates for “restricted” emergency use in India.
But after the event, Dr Somani’s refusal to take questions and the multiple breaches of protocol in the last few months avalanched into a mass of unanswered questions that left more people suspicious of the vaccines' approval. Here are ten questions we need to bear in mind.
