More than 16,000 people contracted the virus in the past 24 hours, according to The Hindu. India has been reporting a record jump in the number of cases since the last four days. The total number of confirmed cases in India has breached 4 lakh and more than 13,000 people have succumbed to the virus. Of these, over 2 lakh people have recovered or have been discharged from hospitals.

However, according to the health ministry, India on Monday added 14,821 new COVID-19 cases pushing the infection tally to 4,25,282, while the death toll rose to 13,699 with 445 new fatalities.

Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Odisha reported highest single-day spikes. Mumbai recorded over 100 deaths for the second consecutive day. More than 3,561 people have succumbed to the virus so far.
