New  Delhi: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Monday (March 24) granted four weeks to the Union government to file a report on the “dual citizenship” case against Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

The case pertains to the petition of a Karnataka lawyer and BJP member S Vignesh Shishir who has claimed that Gandhi also held British citizenship, reported Deccan Herald.

Shishir, who filed the petition before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court, demanding Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha and cancellation of his Indian citizenship.

When the matter was heard on Monday, the Union government had sought eight weeks’ time but the court granted only four weeks for filing of the report on the matter and fixed April 21 for further hearing.

Shishir had claimed that he possessed documents and e-mails which “proved” that Rahul was a ‘British citizen’ and was not qualified to contest elections in India.
