New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday (April 11) arrested Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Kavitha in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

According to the Indian Express, Kavitha is accused of allegedly paying Rs 100 crore to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders in return for liquor licences in the capital.

She is currently under the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) custody at Tihar jail over the matter, it said.

The ED application, according to IE, alleged that Kavitha “orchestrated” a deal with Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia, wherein she, along with other members of the ‘South Group’, paid kickbacks “through a string of intermediaries and middlemen” to gain access to the excise policy formation.

On April 9, the Delhi high court rejected AAP leader and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest and remand by the ED in the excise policy case.

He is also presently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Kejriwal, as per news reports, has said he “will approach the Supreme Court against the Delhi high court’s order”.
