On Thursday, December 16, the Supreme Court dismissed the Uttar Pradesh government's appeal, seeking tougher charges against Dr Kafeel Khan.
In January, Khan was slapped with charges under the National Security Act for an allegedly 'inflammatory' speech which he made during the anti-CAA protests.
The apex court confirmed the decision of the Allahabad high court in the matter, which had scrapped the detention orders. Dr Kafeel Khan spoke to The Wire, describing his legal battle, his activism and the way forward in his career.
