Modi Govt to Move Supreme Court to Quash All FIRs Filed Against July Youth Protestors
New Delhi: The Supreme Court is set to hear the Modi government’s plea seeking to quash all FIRs filed in connection with the Jantar Mantar protest by the youth, invoking Article 142. Article 142 in the Indian constitution allows the top court to “pass such decree or make such order as is necessary for doing complete justice in any cause or matter pending before it,” handing them powers to go beyond normal laws, to enable them to ensure the delivery of justice.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned the issue in relation to Cockroach Janta Party's call for a march near New Delhi’s iconic India Gate on September 5.
Cockroach Janta Party has called the assembly to ensure that the government of India sticks to its commitments to students and unarmed protesters, in pursuit of which the group called for the next public assembly after the Chalo Sansad march at Jantar Mantar on July 20.
This next call had caused considerable nervousness in government circles, after the activity related to the decrepit state of government schools in the past few weeks has helped deepen the call for the overhaul of Modi government’s and BJP state education policies and budgetary priorities.
The founders of the movement pulled no punches on the intent of the September 5 march.
Co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka said, “Get ready Cockroaches. Sarkar ki manmani nahi chalegi.” The Modi government is keen to not be seen as in opposition to ‘Gen Z’. It would want to avoid any repeat of a popular mass gathering of youngsters in the heart of the national capital as proposed on September 5, especially after its reported drive to attract ‘Gen Z’, and the RSS Sarsanghchalak’s very public bid to woo youngsters.
There has been anger online and criticism by opposition parties over the government of India not moving on the procedure to take back all FIRs which continue to dog protestors and marchers.

Chief Justice of India (CJI): You want it listed? What's the grave urgency?
SG: It's regarding that protest...for quashing of FIRs...We are invoking Art. 142
CJI Kant: Alright, you file. If parties are reconciling...we have no difficulty. Court to hear the matter tomorrow.
