New Delhi: Expressing concern about the Allahabad high court, the Supreme Court said on Thursday (January 9) that it is one of the high courts one should be “worried about”.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh made the remarks while dealing with UP MLA Abbas Ansari’s plea assailing Allahabad high court’s failure to hear his property dispute despite a specific Supreme Court direction, reported LiveLaw.

"Some of the High Courts, we don't know what will happen...this (Allahabad High Court) is one of the High Courts which one should be worrisome about. Unfortunately, filing has collapsed, listing has collapsed...nobody knows which matter will be listed. I was there on last Saturday, I had long interaction with some of the concerned judges and Registrar...it is the largest High Court,” said Justice Kant.

Back in 2022, the Supreme Court had taken note of the pendency of bail applications in the Allahabad High Court of convicts who have undergone more than 16 years of incarceration and termed it as “disturbing.”
