New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday (October 21) dismissed a plea filed by former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging an order of the Gujarat High Court refusing to quash summons in a defamation case over his alleged remarks over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualification.
A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S.V.N. Bhatti observed that another bench of the Supreme Court had on April 8 dismissed a plea by AAP leader Sanjay Singh on the same issue, reported The Hindu.
“We must have a consistent approach,” the bench observed.
The Gujarat High Court had on February 16 dismissed the pleas of Kejriwal and Singh who had sought the quashing of the summons issued to them in the case.
A trial court had issued the summons against the two politicians.
The defamation complaint against Kejriwal and Singh was lodged by Gujarat University, accusing the politicians of making “defamatory” statements on not disclosing Modi’s degree.
