New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday (October 21) dismissed a plea filed by former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging an order of the Gujarat High Court refusing to quash summons in a defamation case over his alleged remarks over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualification.>
A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S.V.N. Bhatti observed that another bench of the Supreme Court had on April 8 dismissed a plea by AAP leader Sanjay Singh on the same issue, reported The Hindu.>
“We must have a consistent approach,” the bench observed.>
The Gujarat High Court had on February 16 dismissed the pleas of Kejriwal and Singh who had sought the quashing of the summons issued to them in the case.>
A trial court had issued the summons against the two politicians.>
The defamation complaint against Kejriwal and Singh was lodged by Gujarat University, accusing the politicians of making “defamatory” statements on not disclosing Modi’s degree.>
