New Delhi: In wake of the uproar after the alleged discovery of piles of cash during a fire incident at the house of Justice Yashwant Varma of the Delhi high court, a police team visited the judge’s residence on Wednesday (March 26) and analysed CCTV footage from the day of the incident.
The police team led by DCP (New Delhi) Devesh Mahla and other officials also visited the store room where the fire allegedly broke out along with the lawn where charred items had been placed and recorded videos, reported The Indian Express.
“The team also spoke to Justice Varma’s family members and staff, including his personal assistant who made the first call to police regarding the fire on March 14,” said a senior police officer.
Earlier on Wednesday, a bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna said that it had listed for hearing a petition that sought the registration of an FIR against Justice Varma over the discovery of cash.
The petition has been filed by advocate Mathews Nedumpura.
On Tuesday (March 24), the Supreme Court-appointed three-member committee investigating the alleged discovery of cash from the house of Delhi high court judge Justice Yashwant Varma had begun its inquiry and visited his residence.
The committee members spent around 30-35 minutes inside the house, inspecting the premises before they left.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had made public a video showing the presence of currency in the gutted room.
It also made public late on Saturday (March 23) Justice Varma’s response to the developments to Delhi high court chief Justice Devendra Upadhyaya, in which he denied ever placing cash into the room and alleged the presence of a conspiracy in its discovery.
