New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday (February 6) granted interim protection to officials of Discovery India for alleged threats that they are facing for the documentary “Cult of Fear: Asaram Bapu”.

The documentary about self-styled controversial godman Asaram Bapu has led to persons associated with it receiving several hate comments on the social media accounts of the broadcasters, the channel submitted in court.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna directed the police of seven states to ensure the protection of officials and properties of Discovery India, reported The Tribune.

“In the meanwhile, we request the police authorities to ensure that the petitioner gets to use the office and no threats by way of physical harm are extended to the petitioners,” said the court order.

Senior advocate Abhinav Mukherji who represented the broadcasting channel told the court that it has become increasingly difficult for the petitioners to travel freely across the country.
