Shinde Sena Leader Arrested For Helping Son Who Fled After Death of Woman in Hit-And-Run Case

New Delhi: A Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) leader has been arrested for allegedly helping his son escape, after the latter rammed his BMW car into a two-wheeler in Mumbai, resulting in the death of a 45-year-old woman.

On Sunday (July 7), Kaveri Nakhwa, a resident of Worli Koliwada was travelling in a two wheeler with her husband Pradeep Nakhwa, when the car driven by Mihir Shah, 24, had rammed into the two wheeler, reported The Indian Express.

Mihir is the son of Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) leader from Palghar district who is presently the party’s deputy leader in Palghar district.

According to the police, after Mihir hit the two-wheeler in which the husband-wife duo were travelling, Kaveri was flung on the bonnet of his car, which Mihir continued to drive for two kilometres before flinging her on the road.

Kaveri was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead. Her husband too sustained injuries.

The police have arrested Rajesh Shah, for allegedly helping his son escape.

The police said that a Look Out Circular (LOC) has been issued against Mihir on suspicion that he may flee the country.

Mihir, who is presently absconding, has been booked under NS Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash driving), 125B (causing grievous hurt), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), and 324-4 (committing mischief and thereby causing loss or damage to the amount of Rs 20,000 and more but less than Rs 1 lakh), and Sections 184 (driving dangerously), 134A (not taking the injured to hospital), 134B (not informing the police) and 187 (punishment for offences related to accident) of the Motor Vehicle Act, reported The Indian Express.

Police sources said that Mihir had consumed alcohol from a bar in Juhu and had gone for a joyride with his driver. Later, he had asked his driver to let him drive the car. The driver too has been arrested.

Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that his government will impartially investigate the case.
