New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday (August 14) refused to grant interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who is seeking bail in a case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.
“We are not granting any interim bail,” Justice Surya Kant told senior advocate A.M. Singhvi when the latter pointed to the court that Kejriwal has also sought for interim bail, reported LiveLaw.
The bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan issued notice on Kejriwal’s bail petition and another petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party chief challenging his arrest by the CBI.
Senior advocate Singhvi wondered when Kejriwal got bail under the stringent provisions of PMLA, how could he be denied regular bail in the CBI case as the Prevention of Corruption Act does not have stringent conditions like the money laundering law. He termed the arrest by the CBI an “insurance arrest”, which was made on June 26 on the cusp of Kejriwal’s release in the ED case, reported LiveLaw.
Earlier this month, the Delhi High Court had dismissed Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the CBI. Thereafter the Delhi Chief Minister approached Supreme Court.
