Note: Here, new year has been personified as a wise person who is pointing out how every year, we fail to keep our promises because of our irresoluteness and inaction.

Dear New Year Resolutionist,

As you pin your hope in me,

My own hope gets dwindled to some degrees,

As I remain sceptical about your new year resolution theories.

I tell you, this time I cannot promise you anything,

Except my honest feedback on your annual sufferings.

This is because every year,

Your track record remains impeccable,

To give new colourings to the same problems,

And to add new dimensions to the old hurdles.

Now, these problems never really get solved. Do they?

As your resolution to address them sincerely gets weakened after a few days.

Those areas kept suffering from deforestation,

Those roads remain potholed,

Those wrong views remain unchallenged,

Those stories of abuse remain untold.

And after a few months, you, as a detached observer, behold them, from a safe distance,

As someone else's problem.

By that time, it is already the middle or end of the year,

And you are back to square one with the same hurdles, same failures.

And while your inaction may be creating more holes in the ozone layer,

You get busy writing down your resolutions for the next year!
