This singer-songwriter is reminding people that it's time to put aside religious and ideological differences and help Kerala.
Support Free & Independent Journalism

Good morning, we need your help!

Since 2015, The Wire has fearlessly delivered independent journalism, holding truth to power.

Despite lawsuits and intimidation tactics, we persist with your support. Contribute as little as ₹ 200 a month and become a champion of free press in India.

As thousands of people across the country are mobilising to deliver supplies and other help to Kerala’s flood victims, some others have taken to spreading hate on social media. When news of the floods first hit, some people theorised that the natural disaster was holy retribution for allowing women into the Sabarimala temple. Others encouraged their followers to either only donate to Kerala’s Hindus, or not donate at all since the state is home to Muslims and Christians, is run by a communist government, is home to beef fry and several other communal reasons.

In the midst of all this, Poojan Sahil decided to release a song to remind people of what’s at stake and what we, as citizens, should be doing in this time of crisis.

For those interested in donating to help Kerala’s rehabilitation efforts, Sahil has also compiled a list of organisations that are accepting donations and helping deliver aid to affected people across the state.
