New Delhi: Israel has conducted a targeted attack on a tent of journalists in Gaza, killing five Al Jazeera journalists – Anas al-Sharif, Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa.

Two others were also killed in the attack on the tent, located just outside the al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza.

Al Jazeera has been one of the mainstays in unveiling the horrors of Israel's war against Gaza, with correspondents assiduously reporting amidst attacks, injuries, personal losses and starvation.

Al Jazeera reported that these five journalists had been threatened for months.

In a statement, the Al Jazeera Media Network condemned the killing as it bid "farewell to yet another group of its finest journalists, who boldly and courageously documented the plight of Gaza and its people since the onset of the war. "[I]t holds the Israeli occupation forces and government responsible for deliberately targeting and assassinating its journalists. This follows repeated incitement and calls by multiple Israeli officials and spokespersons to target the fearless journalist Anas Al Sharif and his colleagues," it said.

They are now among the more than 230 media workers who have been killed by Israeli weapons since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza.

The co-editor of the e-zine Jadaliyya, Mouin Rabbani, told the news outlet that the journalists had been "repeatedly warned" to stop "their professional and journalistic activities."

“And nevertheless, with extraordinary courage and perseverance, they kept informing the world about what was happening in the Gaza genocide," he said.
