Mark Tully picked up the award for 'Lifetime Achievement' and Mirror Now's Faye D’Souza bagged 'Journalist of the Year' for 2018.

New Delhi: The Wire‘s Kabir Agarwal was named as the winner of 2018’s RedInk award under the business and economy category for his reportage on the lives of sugarcane farmers in Western UP.

His story documented the life of Jaiveer Singh, a 47-year-old sugarcane farmer in a small village near the town of Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar district. The story delves into the hardship faced by Singh and his family and highlighted the plight of farmers in the area.

Senior journalist Sir William Mark Tully won the Lifetime Achievement in Journalism award, an accolade that went to The Wire‘s Vinod Dua in 2017. In 2016, The Wire won the RedInk Award for start-up of the year.

Faye D’Souza, the executive editor of Mirror Now, was declared Journalist of the Year.

The Redink Awards for Excellence in Journalism recognises meritorious work in TV, print and digital formats, presenting awards in various categories such as politics, crime, health and wellness, business, environment, human rights, photography, science and innovation, entertainment and lifestyle, and sports as well as a category called ‘Mumbai Star Reporter’. The RedInk Awards is the only national recognition for good journalism instituted by a professional body.

The lifetime achievement award recognises his immense contribution to the field of journalism. Former winners of the award include Vinod Mehta, Kuldip Nayar, N. Ram, Mrinal Pande and Roy. Last year, T.N. Ninan won the lifetime achievement award.

Data journalism initiative IndiaSpend.org swept up the award for ‘A Media Start-up that is making a difference’.
