Eggs Hurled at CPI(M)’s Minakshi Mukherjee in West Bengal, Party Blames BJP
New Delhi: After news of regular egg assaults on Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders in West Bengal, eggs were hurled at the car of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Minakshi Mukherjee at Cooch Behar on Tuesday (July 7, 2026).
This is the first time that a Left leader has faced such an attack. Earlier. after the defeat of the TMC following a a fifteen year stint in power, eggs were thrown at senior TMC leaders across West Bengal.
CPI-M leader Mukherjee was in Cooch Behar’s Sitalkuchi area to meet the family of a deceased party worker, Montu Miya, when the eggs were hurled. She is seen as among the leading next-generation leaders of the Left and is a member of the CPI-M Central Committee. She was with former MP, Alakesh Das when the attack took place. A video of the attack was shared by her on her social media accounts.
Party leaders blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for carrying out coordinated egg attacks on opposition leaders in the state. Mukherjee had contested the Assembly elections from Uttarpara in Hooghly district earlier this year.
“All of this happened in front of the police. They stood and watched. Who are they favouring? For all these years, they used to work for Trinamool, and now they are working for the BJP. The government changed in Bengal, but the rule of law could not be established here,” Mukherjee can be heard saying in the video. Eggs can be seen being hurled at the windshield of the car she is in, with police personnel standing by. Mukherjee is asking those in the crowd, what the reason is.
Last week, Krishnanagar MP, Mahua Moitra had put out visuals, reporting how while in her constituency, she had to face an attack with stones and eggs by persons outside where she was holding a party meeting, carrying BJP flags. TMC leaders Abhishek Banerjee and Kunal Ghosh have also had eggs thrown at them.
