After Initial Denial, Maharashtra Public Service Commission Admits Question Paper Leak, Exam to be Held Again
New Delhi: The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has admitted that the question paper of the Drug Inspector Recruitment Examination held in March this year was leaked, and the exams will be conducted once again, reported Economic Times.
The MPSC’s admission of the question paper leak comes just days after it had claimed that there was no question paper leak in the aforementioned exam.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested six people including a senior MPSC official, the Economic Times report added.
Opposition parties have slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the state over the question paper leak of the public examination.
"We were the ones who kept saying that MPSC paper has been leaked. Now, MPSC has finally admitted that the paper was leaked. MPSC chairman and secretary should resign. We want the exams to be held on an offline basis and a man with a clean reputation be appointed to head the MPSC," said Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) (NCP (SP)) leader Rohit Pawar.
Pawar claimed that since 2023 at least 15 papers of various exams held in the state have been leaked, also alleging that even the papers for internal exams in the excise department have been leaked.
Earlier, the question paper of the Teachers' Eligibility Test was found leaked in June.
Days after claiming that there was no paper leak in the Drug Inspector Recruitment Examination, the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has now admitted that there was a paper leak and has decided to hold the exams again. Six people have been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch out of which one is a (undersecretary) senior MPSC official.
“We need a proper probe, and findings of the investigation should be made public. There were several people involved in this leakage. We are being given some new evidence in the paper leak by students who appeared in the exam. We want an impartial investigation into this," said Pawar.
He alleged that MPSC was trying to downplay the incident by claiming that the paper was leaked to only one person.
The NCP (SP) leader alleged that the leak was widespread and the leaked papers were “initially sold for 10-12 lakh and subsequently sold for Rs 40 lakh per paper.”
