Jammu: Three civilians working as labourers were killed today in a pre-dawn terror attack by two or three militants on a General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) camp near the Line of Control in Akhnoor sector of Jammu.
A high alert has been sounded in Jammu district, Hindustan Times reported.
Defence PRO Manish Mehta has said that the terrorists attacked the GREF camp around 1:15 am near the LoC in Battal village, adding that the area has been cordoned off and a counter operation was underway.
Sources also told PTI that the attackers likely infiltrated from across the border.
According to the police, the terrorists first lobbed hand grenades at the camp followed by firing, the India Express reported.
Schools and colleges in the area have been shut following the attack.
The GREF is the parent cadre force of the Border Roads Organisation, which builds and maintains border roads in India.
