BJP Videos on X List Terror Attacks in UPA Years as Govt Says ‘No Space for Politics’

New Delhi: While the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government has urged all political parties to not engage in politics amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, and received vocal support from them, the ruling party’s X handle has used the occasion to target the opposition and said that “unlike the UPA regime’s passivity, New India no patience for futile peace talks”.
This post came as the Modi government at the all-party meeting earlier this week lauded all political parties for their “maturity” in supporting the government. Union minister for parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju had also said after the meeting, “At a time when the country is facing a big challenge, there should be no space for politics.”
The video comes as tensions between India and Pakistan continue to rise in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack last month in which 26 civilians were killed and 'Operation Sindoor' in which the Indian military struck nine targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. This has been followed by drone incursions and heavy firing across the LoC.
In the last two days the military has also said that Pakistan has attempted to attack India’s “entire western border” including across 36 locations on the intervening night of May 8 and 9 and over 26 locations on the night between May 9 and 10.
The video posted May 9 on the BJP’s official X handle shows images from a series of terror attacks including the 2005 Delhi blasts, the 2006 Mumbai train blasts, the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, the 2010 Pune attack, the 2011 Delhi attack, and the 2013 Hyderabad attacks. The video further shows former prime minister, the late Manmohan Singh, holding peace talks following each of these attacks in 2006 and 2007, and claims that there were, “No retaliation, no lessons taught.”
It then shows prime minister Narendra Modi’s image superimposed over destruction left behind by terror attacks and states: “Then came PM Modi, no more talks, no more peace with a terror supporting nation. He’s on a mission to send every terrorist to hell.”
Another video posted on the morning of May 10 also lists terror attacks between 2004-2014 including the Delhi blasts (2005), the Mumbai train blasts and Varanasi blasts (2006), the Jaipur, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad blasts (2008) as well as the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai in the same year. It then goes on to show Singh holding talks with US president Barrack Obama, followed by the Pune German bakery blasts (2010), and the Delhi high court blast (2011) and shows Singh shaking hands with Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif and says, “Peace talks, repeated script”.
It then shows Modi’s speech in Bihar’s Madhubani two days after the Pahalgam terror attack in which he said that any “the time has come to destroy any remaining land of terrorists”. This is followed by images of the missiles flying in recent days amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan and shows Modi in a flight suit, as well as images of him in rallies. “No room for fear, only action” the video concludes.
While the two videos show the terror attacks in India during the UPA government years, it does not make any mention of the terror attacks under the Modi government since 2014 including the Pathankot air base attack (2016), Uri attack (2016), Pulwama (2019) and Pahalgam in 2025.
The two videos posted by the BJP handle comes after the Modi government has repeatedly said that there should not be any politics over national security. Opposition parties have pledged their support including in the all-party meeting held earlier this week following 'Operation Sindoor.'
“The defence minister in his remarks said that today’s meeting shows that we don’t do politics just to form a government but to build a country. It was a display of a mature democracy,” Rijiju had said after the meeting.
“All political parties speaking in one voice has been very welcome. Because this is an ongoing operation there is no separate briefing. I want to thank all leaders and just as we wanted they gave their support and it was a very sensitive and fruitful meeting.”
