In this episode of Central Hall, Kapil Sibal takes a look at Ambedkar's legacy and the politics behind embracing him.

Since Union home minister Amit Shah’s controversial remarks on B.R. Ambedkar in parliament – that it has become fashionable to repeat Ambedkar’s name – a debate has been afoot. Shah also said that had opposition leaders taken god’s name instead, they would have gone to heaven.

Opposition parties summarily pronounced these remarks as disrespectful and demanded Shah’s resignation. While the controversy has died down, we must look at Ambedkar’s legacy and why even those who are against him invoke him repeatedly.

Watch Kapil Sibal in conversation with three experts in this episode of Central Hall. Economist Sukhadeo Thorat is an expert on Ambedkar’s legacy. Purushottam Agarwal is a renowned scholar and former member of the Union Public Service Commission board. Surendra Singh is a sociologist who has worked at length on agrarian inequities.
