Congress Announces Overhaul: Bhupesh Baghel Now Punjab In-Charge, Krishna Allavuru in Bihar

New Delhi: After a series of electoral losses, Congress has announced significant organisational changes on Friday, February 14,  

According to a report by The Hindu, Bhupesh Baghel has been brought into the All India Congress Committee fold as the new general secretary, in charge of Punjab.

Krishna Allavuru, who was the in-charge of the youth Congress, has been assigned as the new general secretary of Bihar, which will be going to the polls this year. Allavuru replaced Mohan Prakash, a Congress veteran.

The Indian Express has reported that Syed Naseer Hussain, a Rajya Sabha member, has been appointed as general secretary for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. 

Meanwhile, in Haryana, after the humiliating defeat in the state assembly polls last year, senior party leader BK Hariprasad has now been appointed as the in-charge of the state Congress. He is a former Rajya Sabha member of the party.

Rajni Patil will be responsible for Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, while Girish Chodankar will be the in-charge for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Harish Chaudhary will handle Madhya Pradesh, The Hindu reported.

Former Lok Sabha member Meenakshi Natarajan will handle Telangana while K. Raju has been given the responsibility of Jharkhand. 

Saptagiri Ulaka, a Lok Sabha member, has been appointed to the party's top post for four states – Manipur, Sikkim, Tripura and Nagaland. 

According to The Hindu, Dipak Babaria, Bharatsinh Solanki, Rajeev Shukla, Ajoy Kumar, Devender Yadav and Mohan Prakash have lost their posts of state in-charges.

During a Congress Working Committee meeting in Karnataka last year, the party had announced that the year 2025 would see a major overhaul as far as key posts were concerned.
