Congress Releases Second List of 43 Candidates for Lok Sabha Polls

New Delhi: The Congress party on Tuesday, March 12, released its second list of candidates with 43 names who will contest on the party’s ticket in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The names of Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, Kamal Nath’s Nakul Nath, and Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav Gehlot feature in the second list. While Gogoi will contest from Assam’s Jorhat, Nakul and Vaibhav will contest from Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh) and Jalore (Rajasthan) respectively.

“We have already announced our first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. Today, we are going to announce the second list. Yesterday, CEC (Congress Election Committee) met and cleared the list of around 43 names from Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan,” said Congress general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal.

The party had released its first list announcing candidates for 39 constituencies on Friday, March 8. According to the previous list, Congress former president Rahul Gandhi will once again contest from Kerala’s Wayanad, and featured the names of Shashi Tharoor, K.C. Venugopal, and Bhupesh Baghel.

Out of the 43 candidates in the second list, 10 are General candidates, 13 OBC candidates, 10 SC candidates, nine ST candidates, and one Muslim candidate.

The Congress’s central election committee, tasked with finalising candidates, had met on Monday, March 11, and discussions were held on 62 constituencies across six states and Union territories. These include Assam, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Daman and Diu.
