Court Defers Judgment in Abetment Case Against Haryana MLA Gopal Goyal Kanda
New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday deferred its judgment in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, in which former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda and Aruna Chadha.
The court is now scheduled to deliver its judgment on June 25, ANI reported.
Kanda is the president of the Haryana Lokhit Party and the MLA from Sirsa.
Sharma, an airhostess, had died by suicide in 2012. She used to work in Kanda's aviation company. Kanda was arrested soon after Sharma's death, for allegedly abetting the suicide. At first he was also charged with raping Sharma, but this charge was dropped in 2014, when he was released on bail.
In her suicide note, Sharma had alleged that she was taking her own life because of harassment she faced from Kanda and his employee Chadha.
Interestingly, while the BJP has maintained a tactical distance from Kanda and his party for all these years – with some BJP's leaders even protesting against Kanda after Sharma's suicide – there recently appeared to be a thawing in relations. Kanda figured in the list of invitees to the National Democratic Alliance meet held earlier this week. Kanda had earlier expressed unconditional support for the Manohar Lal Khattar government, but the BJP had been careful not to offer him any positions.
