D.K. Shivakumar Takes Oath as Karnataka Chief Minister, G. Parameshwara Becomes Deputy Chief Minister

New Delhi: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D.K. Shivakumar was sworn-in as the chief minister of Karnataka on Wednesday (June 3) at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. Along with Shivakumar, 13 other ministers including deputy chief minister G. Parameshwara were sworn in today.

There are two new entrants in the cabinet Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah and U.T. Khader. Other ministers who took oath are M.B. Patil, K.J. George, K.H. Muniyappa, Satish Jarkiholi, Ramalinga Reddy, Krishna Byregowda, Priyank Kharge, Ishwar Khandre, Byrathi Suresh and Sharan Prakash Patil.

Interestingly, Shivakumar took oath in the name of late sear Gangadhar Ajjayya and Parameshwara on the name of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Patil took oath in the name of Vishwaguru Basavanna and other Sharanas, as well as Siddheshwar Swamiji and U.T. Khader and Eshwar Khandre took oath in the name of God. Like his father Siddaramaiah in the past, Yathindra took oath in the name of the constitution.

After the oath taking ceremony, Shivakumar wrote in a post on X that he is conscious of the fact that on his "shoulders rests the responsibility of working tirelessly to fulfil the hopes, aspirations and dreams of crores of Kannadigas".

"Today, with immense humility and a heart filled with gratitude, I took oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka at Lok Bhavan. This moment belongs not to me alone, but to the people of Karnataka and the lakhs of dedicated karyakartas whose affection, trust and unwavering faith have guided me through every challenge and every milestone of my journey. Through every high and low, they were my strength and my inspiration. I bow my head in gratitude to each and every one of you who believed in me and stood by me," he wrote.

Shivakumar added: "In today's rapidly changing era of technology, we must take our proud Karnataka to the pinnacle of development with new ideas. On this path of all-round progress, the participation of farmers, laborers, women, students, youth, and every citizen is crucial for us. No single individual can bring about change, but if we all join hands, nothing is impossible. Come, let us build a beautiful, prosperous, and progressive Karnataka that our future generations will take pride in."

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, and Congress chief ministers V.D. Satheeshan (Kerala), Revanth Reddy (Telangana) and Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu (Himachal Pradesh), Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and Congress leader Rajeev Shukla were present at the event.

Earlier in the day, Shivakumar met former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) chief H.D. Deve Gowda and former Karnataka chief minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader B.S. Yediyurappa.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Shivakumar.

"The Centre will work closely with the Karnataka Government for the welfare of the people," Modi said in a post on X.

Congratulating Shivakumar, former Karnataka chief minister and Union minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said in a post on X, "I hope you will utilise this opportunity you have received for people-oriented work and for the development of Karnataka."

Siddaramaiah resigned as the chief minister last week paving way for Shivakumar.
