New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party has said that Delhi water minister Atishi has ended her hunger strike, which she began on June 21, after she was hospitalised early today, June 25.

Her blood sugar levels dropped to 43 at midnight and to 36 at 3 am, following which doctors at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital advised that she be immediately admitted, AAP said through its account on X.

She, AAP said, had not been eating anything for the last five days and was on an indefinite hunger strike, demanding the release of Delhi’s share of water from Haryana.

The Delhi government has been asking Haryana to release 100 million gallons of water per day from the Hathinikund barrage at a time when the National Capital is grappling with a water crisis.

“To get Delhi its rightful share of water, Atishi ji went on a hunger strike. Today her health has deteriorated and she is admitted in the hospital. We will write a letter to the PM and we hope that the water problem in Delhi will end soon,” AAP leader Sanjay Singh said at a press conference.

Over the last weekend, the news agency PTI had released a video showing Delhi Police – which functions under the Union home ministry led by Amit Shah – using the water cannon on protesters who had ironically gathered to raise the demand for water.

That protest on June 23 took place at the Delhi Jal Board filling pump in Okhla.
